Uh oh, "You've been Promoted!"

What am I going to name the blog now?!?

TvP on Slag Pits.  We were both Random, actually, spawned in Cross Positions and scouted each other pretty casually.  He went for a one-base quick Collosus build which I scouted out when I did a somewhat late early-game push with my Marines and Marauders.  I got some Vikings out and when he pushed me..well I panicked a bit, cancelled the CC I was building but kept calm enough with my unit control to win the encounter.

After that it was just a game of head-on monkey-style agression which is something I feel somewhat comfortable with vs Protoss as Terran, as long as I can keep my Upgrades researching, keep an eye on the tech he's creating and keep a macro / supply lead on him.  I kept up some pressure, coming out ahead (if sometimes just barely) in all the fights and keeping him from expanding too aggressively and eventually he had to GG out.

Mostly importantly, I've been promoted to the Gold Division.  Interestingly, the Gold Division I joined is brand new.  Everyone's rank indicates that they joined it in the last few days so I wonder if I would have been promoted earlier had there been a Gold Division with room?  I've been playing almost exclusively Gold players the past few weeks.

Another win! (After another loss!)

Slag Pits....he one-based it.  I was totally shocked.  He kept..not trying to expand.  I honestly thought I missed it, I then put a lot of effort into scouting and creeping every other mineral base.  I parked Zerlgings outside his base and monitored his stuff.

He just...sat in his base and built and made cannons to defend against my growing deathball of Mutalisks.  At the end I got some Brood Lords built.  I got into his natural once he'd finally expanded (guessing he mined his main out?) and when I destroyed most of those probes he countered and ran into my Brood Lords and Roaches and then quit the game.

Interestingly I've lost like 5 times today and won 2.  All but 1 of those losses were to Silver League players. Both of the wins were to Gold league.  Probably just coincidence.

Bleg, Protoss

I'm really terrible at playing Protoss.  I knew I wanted to do some early Stargate play but I didn't wall off my ramp so I had to add extra buildings to do that, then I was slow at getting them up and running, then I revealed my Phoenixes by stopping to fight some overlords then...then then.

I just feel, when playing Protoss, that every decision I make is the wrong decision.

Okay...well Protoss have meaty units.  Even if I don't go Colossus tech I can mass Gateway units and just be agressive and pushy and bully my opponents.  I need to just be more agressive.

Build Build Build Build Build Build Build

Some days I don't know what's wrong with me.

Build SCVs, Build Supply Depots, Build Unit Producing Structures, Build Units.

Or I could just build a few things, mine minerals and get rolled.

Today's lesson: Don't stop building.  Don't stop to watch the units.  Don't worry about micro.  Just keep building and expanding and building and expanding.

God I am so bad at playing Protoss.

I have no idea what I'm doing.  I follow what I feel like is right and I just get rolled.  I build the wrong units at the wrong times, I try to use their abilities and misclick.

I'm terrabad.

Lesson learned for the day - I need to just memorize Protoss builds until I get more comfortable with what I'm doing.  Which is my least favorite thing, but there's clearly something about playing protoss that I just *DON'T* get.

Harass, Harass, Harass

I took last night's lesson to heart with this game this morning when I spawned Zerg vs a Protoss.

I think this was my first game on Slag Pits?  I liked it.  But then again, I won so =)

He went 3 Gateway Robo and I went Zerg/Roach into Muta.  I harassed with my Zerglings a few times, shutting down his Expansion attempt once and making him bleed for it a second time.  I then started hitting the front and back with my Roaches and Mutas.  I kept losing my Roach Army which was a mistake..I should have pulled them out more and kept them alive, but his army was a lot stronger than mine and he had observers to spot my burrow.

Fortunately I had expanded a third time so when he rolled over my Natural and Main, while I was able to kill it off, I was by no means dead and was able to rebuild those hatches plus some more and immediately throw my Mutas back in the fight, which is when he quit out.

This was one of those games that gets my heart pumping the whole time.  I'm super keyed up now.
